Hello Freebooters!

Over at Genesis of Legend Publishing, we have a long tradition of providing a full budget breakdown so that our backers can see where all of their hard-won pledges were spent. This campaign is no different, and it’s a treat to dig into the campaign results. All values are in Canadian dollars and rounded up, for consistency’s sake. As a reminder, the campaign had 685 backers who pledged $30,745 (Canadian Dollars) to help bring this project to life.

Given the chaos of the world, it was particularly challenging to bring this game across the finish line. Issues related to the global pandemic have slowed down printing, interfered with shipping, and generally thrown a monkey wrench at every project. Despite these obstacles, we were able to produce a game we are quite proud of and put them in your hands. What else could we ask for?

Project Income

  • Gross Kickstarter Pledges:    $ 30,745
  • Backerkit Payments: $ 4,089
  • Dropped pledges:  $ 106
  • Kickstarter fee:   $ 1,532
  • Payment processing fee: $ 1,050
  • Backerkit Fee: $ 464
  • Net Income: $ 31,682

Project Expenses

  • Design & Writing by Jason Pitre:  $3,740
  • Design & Writing by Quinn Murphy: $1,290
  • Editing by Avery Alder: $320
  • Editing by Christopher Rothwell: $1,270
  • Fulfillment for AU/NZ: $731
  • Fulfillment for CA: $801
  • Fulfillment for EU : $1,794
  • Fulfillment for US + Other: $3,894
  • Illustration by Alex Louise: $2,008
  • Illustration by Juan Ochoa: $3,200
  • Printing by Bang Printing: $12,846
  • Total Expenses: $ 31,899
The breakdown of expenses for Sig: City of Blades

As a publisher, these are fantastic numbers. The printing and shipping prices were dramatically higher due to printing and fulfillment costs but we had enough room in the budget to be able to handle the difference. We had approximately 700 additional copies of Sig: City of Blades produced and many of them have already been spotted in friendly local game stores. Our success with this project gives us the resources to continue to move forward on new, exciting projects.

Now on Roll20!

Over the last couple of months, we have been working with the Steve Radabaugh of Radical Bomb Games to bring Sig to the Roll20 platform. Steve has done fantastic work in pulling together some lovely automated character and crew sheets which are now freely available for your online gaming pleasure. Take a look at these interactive beauties!

Kickstopper

Unfortunately, not all is well in the world. The Kickstarter funding program just released a manifesto which embraced blockchain and cryptocurrency. The full announcement is present at the following link.

https://www.kickstarter.com/articles/lets-build-whats-next-for-crowdfunding-creative-projects?ref=section-homepage-promo-the-future-of-crowdfunding-creative-projects

Genesis of Legend Publishing Inc. is deeply uncomfortable with the changes being proposed for a variety of environmental, legal, economic, and ethical reasons. We will be reconsidering what role, if any, the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform has for our company going forward. We will wait for the White Paper to reveal more details about this scheme in January.

Thank you for supporting this project and letting us bring another beautiful game into the world. Until next time, happy gaming!

Treasures in Countless Hands
over 2 years ago – Tue, Nov 09, 2021 at 07:05:43 PM

Hello Freebooters!

I have been extremely pleased to hear reports that books have been steadily arriving in backer's hands. I am quite proud of this project and the beautiful book we were able to produce thanks to your support. On the publishing side of things, we have been very fortunate to have been spared the worst of the snarled international distribution chains.

Fulfillment Progress

Most folks in the USA should have their copies by Thanksgiving, and I hope you enjoy digging into the book. All of the copies of Sig: City of Blades should have reached EU and Canadian backers at this point. Folks in Australia / New Zealand Aotearoa should have been contacted by Aetherworks to confirm your addresses. If you don't receive your copy in a reasonable amount of time, or in the case it's damaged in shipping, please contact me at [email protected] to resolve it.

Folks outside of USA, CAN, AUS, NZ or EU may still have a bit of a wait depending on their locations, but we hope that your rewards reach you shortly.

Digital Resources

We are currently hard at work developing some useful resources for folks to play Sig: City of Blades online. Our friends over at Radical Bomb Games are preparing an exciting interactive character sheet for the Roll20 platform which ought to sit nicely beside the Blades in the Dark sheets. We will also be pulling together character sheets for Role (https://www.playrole.com/) as that platform is under development.

Last but not least, we hope to pull together some useful tools for streamers including handy art packs and overlays for your games.

Inevitable Glitches

Every project has its fair share of errors, and we wanted to be transparent about the two major issues that have occurred.

Firstly, the fact that Quinn Murphy's name didn't make it to the credits page for his stellar adventure design was a disservice and one that will be corrected for any future print run. We have corrected the error in the digital version of the game and included additional attribution in the errata.

Secondly, there was a misconfiguration of the Backerkit add-on for print copies of "After the War" whereby folks were instead sent copies of Sig: Manual of the Primes. We have arranged for copies of After the War to be shipped out to the affected backers and we hope those of you in this situation enjoy the Manual of the Primes with our compliments.

Mistakes were made

Next Time...

Our next backer update ought to contain our post-mortem analysis of the project including what went well and what we can improve going forward. This will include all of the nitty-gritty budget breakdowns so folks can see where their money was spent.

Until then, happy gaming!

Sig Fulfillment Update
over 2 years ago – Wed, Oct 20, 2021 at 11:11:52 PM

Hello Everyone,

Copies of Sig are currently being sent out to backers around the world through a variety of means and you should expect to get your copies in the near future. Let's talk specifics!

  • Canadian backers should have all received their copies at this point as I have sent them out directly. If any Canadian has not yet received their copy, please contact me to fix the situation.

  • American backers will be receiving their copies any day now. Our friends at Indie Press Revolution are in the process of mailing out copies to 315 backers and we hope that the challenges with USPS don't slow things down too much.

  • EU backers will be receiving their copies soon. You may be contacted by our friends at Sphaerenmeisters Spiele who will be our fulfillment partner for these shipments. I encourage you to take the opportunity to also pick up any extra games from that store if you want to combine them into the shipment.

  • Australian and Aotearoa New Zealander backers will have their copies sent via Aetherworks Distribution. The copies are currently in the process of being sent via Air Freight from the USA so that you don't have to wait a decade for a sea shipment.  They will contact you to confirm your address before shipping.

  • Other backers will receive their copy via Indie Press Revolution as well. The amount of time that it will take is wildly unpredictable but will be based on your distance from Nevada, USA.

I can't wait for you to get your copies of the game and to hear what stories you tell together.

The Book has Arrived
over 2 years ago – Sun, Sep 12, 2021 at 12:49:34 AM

Hello Everyone!

I am overjoyed to report that I have just received a small number of copies of Sig: City of Blades from the Printers and it looks rather fantastic. Here are some pictures that I am certain many of you have been waiting for.

Sig: City of Blades Cover
The Mighty Spine
Introduction
System Mastery
Beware the Aesigilar Prophet

These books are being fulfilled by myself, Indie Press Revolution, Sphärenmeisters Spiele, and Aetherworks Distribution depending on where you are located.  Indie Press Revolution should be receiving and sending out the bulk of the books to all of the American backers once they return from GenCon 2021. I will be sending out the Canadian copies over the next few days, and it will take folks overseas a little bit longer to get their copies.

While my original plan was to get the books in your hands many months sooner, no plan survives contact with a global pandemic. This means that there will be a handful of copies available for sale at GenCon 2021 and Origins 2021 at the Indie Game Developer Network booths.  If you are intending on going to either of those shows and would prefer to pickup your book at the booth instead of the mail, please message me and I will get you set up.

Until next time, I need to start shipping some beautiful books!

Reports from Printer's Alley
over 2 years ago – Sat, Aug 28, 2021 at 12:33:19 AM

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since my last update and I wanted to apologize for the radio silence. Our original printing date for Sig: City of Blades was pushed back a couple of times and my print representative has notified me that the printing would be completed on August 25th.  As most of you are aware, every aspect of the game production process has been complicated by COVID, including issues on paper supply and labour shortages at printing plants. It should be worth the wait though and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the game. I will share photos of the hardcopy as soon as I get them.

Shipping the Goods

The books are going to be mailed out to a variety of fulfillment partners to make the shipping as efficient as possible.

  • Canada: I will fulfill these personally.
  • European Union: Spheremaster Games will be handling this shipping process which should minimize VAT costs.
  • Australia and New Zealand: We will by flying these over to our friends at Aetherworks who will be handling the fulfillment.
  • USA and Everywhere Else: The fine folks at Indie Press Revolution will be sending these out to you shortly.

Release the Errata!

In the meantime, we have been hard at work finalizing the errata for the game. If you have downloaded your copy from DrivethruRPG, you should have already been notified that the file has been updated to include this additional PDF. You can also find it right here on our website.

The errata comes on six letter-sized pages with a variety of useful clarifications to help you on your next planar heist.  While we were unable to integrate this into the printed editions of the game, the digital version is printer-friendly.  If you fold it in half lengthwise, you will be able to fit the errata right into the book for easy reference.

Roll20 Sheet?

I am currently in negotiations with a brilliant freelancer to pull together professional-quality sheets for Roll20 so you can play the game online with ease. We will let you know when it's up and ready for your games.

Till then, thank you for your continued support.
